For people who don't dance yet

Start dancing swing in Poznań — from scratch

You do not need to know how to dance, and you do not need a partner. Come on your own or with a friend — we rotate partners during class, so nobody is left standing.

Where do I start?

The easiest way in: come to a social

Free-entry socials are the cheapest way to see what this is all about, without signing up for a whole course. We usually start with a short lesson for newcomers.

Courses from scratch and for beginners

Courses marked “beginner” and “all levels” are for you. We teach the basic step, the rhythm and leading and following — calmly, one step at a time.

Would you rather start without a group?

A private lesson is from 200 zł for 60 minutes. You work at your own pace and join the group with more confidence.

Common questions before your first class

We have gathered what people ask us most often before their first time. Yours not here? Write to us — we will answer.

Do I need a partner?
You do not have to, but you can. Some people come alone, some come as a couple — both end up in the same group. One thing worth knowing upfront: we rotate partners during class, and that applies to everyone, including people who arrived together. It is not a quirk — everyone leads and follows a little differently, so rotating is simply the fastest way to get to the point where you can dance with anyone. Nobody is left without a partner. And on Solo Jazz and solo Charleston you need no partner at all — those are danced on your own.
I have never danced. Will I manage?
Yes. Swing was born as a social dance for everyone, not for academy-trained dancers. You will have the basic Lindy Hop step in your first class. Our from-scratch courses start exactly where you are.
What should I wear?
Anything you can move comfortably in. Shoes matter most: flat, with a soft sole that does not stick to the floor. Ordinary sneakers are fine. Bring a spare T-shirt — it will get warm.
How much does it cost, and must I buy a whole course upfront?
Course prices are on our prices page. Some classes allow a single drop-in, so you can come once and decide later. Socials often have free entry.
Am I too old for this?
Not at all. On our floor you will meet students and people in their sixties, often in the same group. Swing is a social dance — what counts is that you want to come.
I work until five. Will I make it to class?
Yes — that is why classes start in the evening. Courses begin after 6 pm and run for 75 minutes, once a week. The studio is in central Poznań, so you can come straight from work. For most of our students this is the one after-work activity they actually keep going to.
I am coming on my own. Will I meet anyone?
It is the most common worry and the one that passes fastest. Swing is danced in rotating pairs, so in a single class you will dance with half the room — there is no sitting it out in the corner. The Poznań swing community also meets outside class: at socials, workshops with guest teachers and shared trips to festivals. That is what makes people stay.
What is the difference between Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz and Boogie Woogie?
Lindy Hop is danced with a partner and is usually where people start. Solo Jazz you dance on your own, so you need nobody else — a good way in if dancing with a partner feels daunting. Boogie Woogie is faster, danced to rock'n'roll and blues. You do not have to choose straight away; many of us dance several of them.
